We were just at our "vacation home" this past weekend. We went down for the RR concert. It was quite odd to be sitting in the audience, but also very cool to be sitting there hearing everyone's positive comments. People around me really enjoyed themselves. Emma Kate fell asleep on the way there and slept through the first half of the first half. She woke up to Dave's voice with a look on her face like, "That guy again? Where'd he come from?" Chris was kind enough to sit with her in the lobby for the second half, and she had fun visiting with her old pals after the concert.
Something else we did while we were there was Kool-Aid dyeing. Emma Kate is getting some dyed playsilks (it's sort of an open-ended "toy" - Google it for examples) for Christmas. I bought plain ones from Dharma Trading and we dyed them this weekend. Because silk is a protein fiber, Kool-Aid will work as a permanent dye. We used grape, lemon-lime, ice blue raspberry lemonade, pink lemonade, lemonade, and cherry for our colors. I think they turned out pretty well. We decided that any imperfections just "add to the natural beauty of this unique handcrafted fabric" - you know, like you see on clothing tags these days. I hope EK likes them; she may or may not, but at least we won't have spent a fortune on them if she doesn't.
In other news, I am missing my state government holidays right about now. I am only going to be off for 3 days during the holidays - the 24th, 30th, and 31st. That's all the time I have saved up and everything here comes out of one PTO account. There are no holidays in the typical sense of the word.
